Mask-Making

Hi there!

To those of you have already pitched in to the mask-making project, THANK YOU! If you’re just tuning in, we’re grateful for your interest in mask making. If you’re interested in joining us in this project, send us an e-mail to BerkshireMutualAid@gmail.com.

A few different opinions on the subject of the efficacy of wearing masks are making the rounds in the news and on the internet. This video does a great job explaining why it’s good for everyone to wear homemade masks. It is a layer of protection for the individual to go along with washing hands, not touching your face, physical distancing, etc. —->

PATTERNS

We have a few patterns you can use if you’re just getting started. One is a basic pattern for some protection from Deaconess:

https://www.deaconess.com/How-to-make-a-Face-Mask

A number of guides to making face masks have been circulating. Here is a pretty straightforward one that is vetted and validated!

https://www.nytimes.com/article/how-to-make-face-mask-coronavirus.html

This next pattern is one you can make for those places that require a pocket:

or you can make the masks that fit over the N95 that are in use at hospitals found here: massmakemasks.org

Once the masks are sewn please label which mask you made and drop off at these two locations for sorting and distribution. We have an ongoing database for places who have contacted us to receive masks. We are maintaining the UTMOST safety protocol.

Still, everyone should be clear that these are NOT medical grade and we are not liable after delivery. Facilities are required to wash/sanitize themselves. Most people probably just assumed this, but it bears repeating.
